Peace & Blessings,
the Vocalists i like tend to have 'different' sounding voices &/or quirky things they do - here's a set of Unique Vocalists to Celebrate the Harvest Moon - starting out w/ Levi Stubbs & the Tops pleading 'Shake Me, Wake Me' followed by The Five Stairsteps, another family group from the Chicago area who gave the Jackson 5 a run for their money @ the time ('64-'67)- next, 'How Nice It Is' by Billy Stewart, a Washington, D.C. native with one of the most distinctive sounds of the '60s' followed by an early Disco Classic from the inimitable Boz Scaggs, 'LowDown' - Charlie Wilson & the Gap Band (from Oklahoma -that explains the cowboy hats!)next w/ 'Outstanding' followed closely by an Uncle Charlie acolyte, Mark Morrison w/ 'Return of the Mack'- D.C. Area fixture Chuck Brown introduced 'Go-Go' to the World w/ the next cut 'Bustin' Loose' - from the Land of Cleve circa '71 comes Sugerfoot & the Ohio Players w/ 'Fire" - Annie Lennox explains what 'Sweet Dreams' are made of w/ the help of Dave Stewart, Montel Jordan breaks it down for us from Kali-fornia w/ 'This Is How We Do It'-from Brazil, Original Raggademente invites us to the 'Bomba'- back to the West Coast w/Miguel Migs & the Girls wantin' to know about 'Those Things' - Dance on outta' here w/ Setente, Baba Olatunji, My man Sola Akingbola & a surprise from Aso Kere, 'Lekan Babalola'

Peace & Blessings,
Al sez: it's come to my attention that my personal obsession w/ heterosexual union is being equated somehow w/ being 'against' the Fem/LBGT/alternative lifestyles community ...whoops, my bad -
i've had too many great, helpful friends over the years who fit that acronym/description to let this misconception go un-addressed -
Pop(paternal Grand-dad) said: "Anyone who wastes precious life just being against things is a damn fool" -
in the 60's, when i was a teenager, just liking Smokey Robinson songs (mushy stuff)or being a good dancer was enough to get the rumours started - same thing in the 70's if you went to the Disco a lot - Prince was clever, he just named the next album 'Controversy' & got paid ...
KawoMetut sez:
Creation/Life is driven
by the harmonious interplay
& fusion of 'polar' complements -
just like the Yin/Yang symbol,
all complementary 'opposites'
contain the seed of the other within -
just as one Persons' Medicine
is the next ones' Drug & vice-versa,
'opposition' is simply a description of locations -
it doesn't have to mean conflict -
that's MegaMedia brainwashing @ work -
don't Buy the Hype - it makes U ill ...
Our responsibility as Humans of whatever
persuasion, race, gender, etc. is to treat
one another w/ the same Love & Respect
We each all want for Ourselves ...
Keep Your Ai/eye/i on the Prize, Hold on -
HalleluJah, Amen -
Now,
balancing out the last mostly Male 'cast,
still inside our Funky, Jazzy, Dancy,
thoughtful & thought-provoking envelope;
here's words & music by some Females
of assorted persuasions
who've got my ear & respect as Singers,
Songwriters, Producers, Percussionists,
Musicians, Philosophers & Beautiful People:

http://www.phoenician.org/isis_and_osiris_legend.htm
p.s. - have you ever noticed that the lyrics to most love songs are non-gender specific? sometimes they're singing to the Most High ...
p.p.s. - Wa-kin-yan Sapa (Hunkpapa Lakota='black man of/with the rocks') sez : "the one across from U in the circle dance always looks like they're going the wrong way"

Now we're gonna' get into some of my favorite sounds -
starting off with "Better 2 gether" from Jiva, out of Atlanta -
next up, "Together" by the Intruders, a classic '60's soul group out of Philly -they had many regional hits, such as: "Cowboys to Girls", Love is like a Baseball Game" & this one - early precursors of the Gamble&Huff. Van McCoy, Thom Bell productions - next:
"I Want Someone" by the Mad Lads from the state of Delaware, a tiny state next to Maryland - these cats Were what all the street-corner singers i knew wanted to Be - check out the scat harmonies towards the end of the track-
Oh yeah, we got chased off many a corner late at night for "making that god-awful racket" as i heard it described one time - our local City of Baltimore Recreation Center had regular talent shows - one of the groups (the Royalettes) which won these contests went on to record & tour with Otis Redding -
When one of the guys in our crew met a new girl he wanted to impress, we'd show up on the sidewalk in front of her house or porch, if she had one, and hopefully her girlfriends were there to be wow-ed by our acapella renditions of just such songs as these...
After that comes "I'm Your Puppet" by James & Bobby Purify, cousins (not brothers) from Florida who recorded this cut @ Muscle Shoals Studio in 1966 -
Next: "How Nice It Is" by Billy Stewart, a Washington, D.C. native -
a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known for pouring his Entire Soul into every performance - sadly, his chronic weight issues caught up to him before Fame or Recognition could ...
i couldn't find the original version of "I Do Love You" by Billy Stewart but this heart-felt rendition by the Disco era group GQ is faithful to Billys' style.
What to say about Stevie Wonder? (Tuesday Heartache) - we're the same age - can't tell you how awed & impressed i was hearing "Castles in the Sand" on the radio back in '64...
Evelyn 'Champagne' King is next w/ "I'm in Love" - she was discovered singing in a bathroom late one night while cleaning it on the night shift -
the Fantasia B. of that time - everyone identified with the Rags-to-Riches storyline -
Kashif (Lover Turn Me On, Help Yourself)- this brother was all over the airwaves in the early '80's - like Timbaland or somebody - when i was in New York City in '82, Kashif had produced 5 out of the top 10 on WBLS!
then, from "Love Come Down" - Evelyn King/ Kashif again -
we go with Kudu -talkin' 'bout "Let's Finish What We Started"
into "Love is So Hot" by Demetrius Price (originally from Philly) to Maxwells' "Ascension",
"Thoughtaway" by Malena Perez,
"Superstar" by Floetry f. Common,
"So Special"&"And If" by Sa-Ra
finishing up with
Erykah Badus' "Honey" (You So Sweet)
Enjoy,
Hetep,
Al W. / Kawo Metut
p.s. for all you with 'tender ears' there is one 'F-bomb' only, towards the end; thus the 'Explicit' rating...

... wanted to narrate this time but can't seem to get this $9.99 Chinese Gosseneck (sic) Condenser Microphone adjusted right - looks like i might have to wait for $ to get REAL mike.
Anyway, back in the day ('77 -'79) there was a club in Baltimore called Odells' (You'll Know If You Belong) - i was the interior design & graphics guy - DJ Wayne, the originator of 'House" , winner of #1 DJ in the country award numerous times, more recently of R. Kelly video fame, was the DJ - those were heady, idealistic times - the music had messages (as trite as some of that stuff seems now), race, sex & class weren't going to matter, etc, etc.......we fell prey to the" South American Invasion" - i watched that dream die a geekin', shriveled-up death - we've watched Rave go circling down that same toilet drain - Have we learned our lesson?
One thing i learned was that if we can preen, posture, shake, shimmy & sway to attract a partner, than we can "talk" about our differences, frustrations, pain, etc. on the dance floor as well. You can make faces, jump up & down, wave your hands all around & get everything that's on your mind out without folks thinkin' u losin' u mind...
Follow the story arc from the wish-full projection of 'Call Me' ,'Your Love Is Mine' & 'Make It Sweet' to the "arguing" of 'Can't Get Thru' & 'I'm Not Perfect' - our imaginary couple takes their 'Medicine' & ain't nothin' but a party from there...
So, argue, fuss, talk, discuss, it's OK as long as you ALSO Dance & Make Romance .........
